Apple unable to trademark "iPad Mini" as it's too descriptive

As one of the most successful tablets on the market, Apple's iPad has been a resounding success. You'd expect the company to have the rights to the iPad name tightly locked-down... but they can't trademark "iPad Mini", according to the US Patent and Trademark Office.
The US Patent and Trademark Office rejected the bid to trademark the name, saying that it was "merely descriptive", and did not do enough to conjure an image. Ouch!
You can almost see the Patent Office's argument though; the 'Mini' is merely a suffix on a well-established Apple name, so might be a little unnecessary to trademark.
Apple is still in with a shot of getting the name trademarked, if they can win the Patent Office over before July. That’s three months to do so, and we wouldn't be surprised if there was a trademark given out during that period.
The Cupertino-based company's claim to the name dates all the way back to January. The Patent Office sent a letter to the company in January, but it has only now reached the internet.

Why Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak lined up for the new iPad

Why Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak lined up for the new iPad:

Anyone would feel bad about missing the new Apple iPad preorder period. It's pretty annoying having to stand in line to get your tablet, especially if you're at the end of a long and winding queue. But there was one person who lined up for the new iPad on his own volition when he could've easily got his hands on Apple's newest device — Steve Wozniak, also known as "the other Steve" of Apple.

Wozniak co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs in 1976. While he doesn't work full time for the company anymore, he's still an employee and a stockholder. His lining up outside an Apple Store doesn't mean it's excessively hard to find a device, though — it's a ritual that he's been doing for years. But while he's been first in line for many prior Apple devices, this time, there was someone else who got there before he did — his wife.

"I want to be one of the people lined up and wait[ing] all night," he said in an interview. You can watch the entire chat with Wozniak above, where he also praised the features of the new iPad.

Apple’s Anti-Leaking Policy Leaked

Apple is known to go to great lengths to protect their secrets and prevent leaks about their products before official launch, and that’s why it is ironic that their anti-leaks policy document got leaked.

The document was leaked by 9to5Mac website and – surprisingly enough – it is not as over the top as one would expect given Apple’s reputation.

The policy states mainly that Apple employees “may not disclose Apple confidential information to an outside party unless a written agreement or license has been previously signed and approved by the division vice president.”

Additionally, the policy directs the employees not to use their @apple.com email addresses for non-business-related matters, with alternative @me.com email addresses given for use in personal communications.

The policy allows Apple employees to have their own blogs and websites as long as they don’t discuss anything about the company or its products. As for social networks such as Facebook, Apple employees are required to “be thoughtful about how you present yourself in online social networks. The lines between public and private, and personal and professional are blurred in online social networks.”
