NJ university holds vigil for student who committed suicide after sex encounter went online

New Jersey's Rutgers University has held a silent vigil for 8-year-old freshman student Tyler Clementi who committed suicide after his sexual encounter with a man in his dormitory room was secretly streamed online.

Sunday's tribute to 18-year-old freshman Tyler Clementi was held on the school's campus in New Brunswick.

Prosecutors say Clementi's roommate and another student used a webcam to broadcast on the Internet live images of Clementi having the intimate encounter. Tyler Clementi jumped off the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson River three days later. And his body was identified on Thursday.

Rutgers President Richard McCormick calls the vigil an opportunity for students and staff to reaffirm their commitment to "the values of civility, dignity, compassion and respect."
